Game Description

A first-party effort from Microsoft, NBA Inside Drive 2002 is the system's inaugural basketball franchise. The smattering of modes offered are Exhibition, Season and Playoff, with the Season mode allowing players to take the team of their choice through a full 82-game season in the NBA. The acquisition of the full NBA license means that all the players and arenas from the 2000-2001 season are represented in the game, along with up-to-date statistics covering every conceivable aspect of the sport.

A fantasy draft and full general manager capabilities allow users to trade, sign, and release players as they see fit. A real-time coaching feature lets users call plays or change strategies without breaking up the action. Additionally, the user can control decisions regarding double-teaming an opposing player and how much pressure to apply. Teams have their own default playbooks, but these can be manipulated and customized in accordance with a player's particular game plan. Injuries will also play a vital role in Season mode, sidelining key players through minor and serious injuries. Kevin Calabro and Marques Johnson are responsible for the in-game commentary, ably supported by sideline commentary for injuries and post-game analysis.
