Necker, Suzanne Curchod, Madame (1739-94). She received an excellent education in ancient and modern literature, then married Jacques Necker. Their daughter became Germaine de Staël. Perhaps the last précieuse [see Preciosity], Necker ran a famous Paris salon where men of letters and politicians met. She wrote prolifically, despite her husband's objections to literary women. He published five volumes of her collected works posthumously (1798-1802).
