Individual employed in a professional capacity by a broadcast or cable network or station to announce the news. A newscaster may work for a local station or a network, and his additional responsibilities may include news writing and research, film or tape editing, and the development of interviews and documentaries. An anchorperson is the key newscaster at a central station who is chiefly responsible for coordinating and integrating a broadcast that may involve specialized newscasters for sports, weather, traffic, stock market, and other news areas, with coverage coming from several different locations.
