The soundtrack to Richard Linklater's period crime drama The Newton Boys contains excerpts from Edward D. Barnes' songs and new interpretations of classic '20s jazz from the likes of Abra Moore, Bad Livers and Patty Griffin. Many of the new versions are quite good, breathing new life into the songs, and Barnes' first-rate score evokes the period quite well. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
