There is nothing wrong with being called a nitwit. It is particularly cheerful. It is a much less savage term than idiot for example. You may think of it as a friendly term for idiot.

Of course there will be those nitwits who may be offended by the term. In which case, avoid the term with them and yet don't fail to remind yourself what I said in my first paragraph.
