1. The face value of a bond. Generally $1,000 for corporate issues, with higher denominations such as $10,000 for many government issues.

2. A dollar amount assigned to a security when first issued.

Investopedia Says:
For stocks, par is usually a small dollar amount that bears no relationship to the security's market price.

Present value of a continuity customer over the active life of the customer. It is calculated by estimating the total revenue to be expected from the customer, less the total expenses expected to be incurred earning the revenue, discounted to arrive at the value that net revenue would have if received in a lump sum payment today. The par value is used as a basis for evaluating various sources of new customers.

Price that is the same as the Face Value , or nominal amount, of a security. Bonds with a face value of $1000 that are bought or sold for $1000 are traded at par. If they sell for more than $1000 they would be traded at a Premium if less, at a Discount.
