North Battleford, city (1991 pop. 14,350), W Sask., Canada, at the confluence of the North Saskatchewan and Battle rivers, opposite Battleford. It is the service and distribution center for NW Saskatchewan, which has rich farming, lumbering, and fishing.

North Battleford is a small city in west central Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located directly across the North Saskatchewan River from the town of Battleford. Together, the two communities are known as the Battlefords.

Population

The 2006 census reported a decline in the population of 3.67% from the 2001 census, resulting in a population of 13,190 residents.

According to the Canada 2001 Census:

Population: 13,692 (−2.6% from 1996)
Land area: 33.51 km²
Population density: 408.6 people/km²
Median age: 36.5 (males: 34.9, females: 37.8)
Total private dwellings: 5,976
Mean household income: $34,995

In recent years a large number of Pannonian Rusyns have emigrated to Canada, concentrating in North Battleford.[1]

Former CNR station

History

North Battleford is the home of one of four branches of the Saskatchewan Western Development Museum. This branch focuses on the agricultural history of Saskatchewan, including a pioneer village.

The Latter Rain Movement started here in 1946–48.[2]

In 2001 a problem with the city's water system led to the infection of approximately 6280 people with cryptosporidiosis; a lawsuit for several million dollars went through in 2003.

In 2009 John Paul II Collegiate won provincials for the 2A division in boys soccer. The first ever provincial gold in soccer in North Battleford history.
