Oetzi the Iceman was found with 59 tattoos in various locations on the body. All of the tattoos wear near or on acupuncture points, the discovery of Oetzi changed the perception that Chinese had discovered acupuncture.

X-rays revealed that Oetzi had osteoarthritis at various joints, all of which had the markings. This is definitive proof that the markings had medical purposes.
