The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) develops policies and prioritizes the nation's drug control efforts. Established by the Executive Office of the President in 1988, the ONDCP works to reduce illicit drug use, manufacturing, trafficking, drug-related crime and violence, and drug-related health defects. The National Drug Control Strategy, developed by the office director, offers a program, budget, and guidelines for directing drug control through federal, state, and local governments. The office additionally monitors international and domestic anti-drug programs within Executive Branch agencies. The ONDCP has an annual budget of about $15 billion.
