1. bank, savings and loan, or mortgage banker that initially made the mortgage loan comprising part of a pool of mortgages.
2. Investment banking firm that worked with the issuer of a new securities offering from the early planning stages and that usually is appointed manager of the underwriting Syndicate; more formally called the originating investment banker.
3. In banking terminology, the initiator of money transfer instructions.
