The national view is a graphic composite of local reports across the country from over 50 (Oops! Make that 'more than' 50) reporting stations—Chicago Sun-Times, 1989.
Objection is occasionally made in America to the use of over in the sense 'more than' followed by a numeral (other than in designations of age: an American could say I am over 50 without fear of censure). In British English all these uses have gone unchallenged, and Garner's Modern American Usage (2003) brushes the objection aside as a 'baseless crotchet'.
