It is possible to overfill an engine with oil. It can cause some damage, but mainly it will decrease power and fuel economy because the crankshaft is turning through the oil which adds resistance to the engine.

Overfill plug on an A/T? Never heard of one. You add fluid at the same place you check it. Do not overfill.

If you were to overfill the coolant in your car, then it would start to overflow and come out of the car. The most damage that this would probably do would be getting the coolant on the ground and wasting it.?æ

The brake fluid will just leak.

It is very difficult to overfill a gas tank. Most gas pumps can sense when a tank is getting full, and the supply of gas automatically stops.

I presume you mean overfill with oil. It will depend on how much you overfill it. If only a bit then it'll probably be OK. If a lot, you may get seals damaged.

Through the dip-stick tub. Do not overfill.

Radiator and overfill tank.

1 answer

Absolutely not. If the radiator is hot it will explode antifreeze and give u severe burns. Now if you need to put water in it or antifreeze u can open up the overfill tank anytime. The overfill tank is a plastic tank on the side of the vehicle. Now some cars don't have overfill tanks. Take a Crown vic for example, their radiator IS a plastic chamber with a plastic cap which tells you, do not open when hot.

Overfill tanks are plastic tanks

Not all plastic tanks or overfill tanks.

Yes, a power steering pump can leak because of overfill or cold weather. As the seals are damaged due to pressure from overfill or due to freezing, the pump can leak.

1 answer

Yes, it sure will. Never overfill your crankcase.

The surplus will drop back onto the lawn.

1 answer

I don't know what year and which transmission you have but the transmission dipstick itself should have the markings to tell you when it's full when properly read. Anything over the full mark when hot would be considered overfill.

The engine can deal with "SOME" overfill - excess oil. 6 quarts is certainly not a problem.

If it's way over full, use the oil drain plug to remove the excess.

  1. Place a large drain pan under the oil pan.
  2. Remove the transmission oil drain screw (2) and drain fluid.
  3. Tighten drain screw (2). Torque: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.)
  4. Remove the transmission overfill screw (1) and fill transmission through overfill screw opening, using DEXRON III ATF. NOTE: Add transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw opening.
  5. Let engine idle until a fluid temperature between 32°C (90°F) and 57°C (135°F) is reached.
  6. Add transmission fluid until it flows out over the overfill screw opening, then close the overfill screw (1). Torque: 38 Nm (28 ft. lbs.) NOTE: To prevent fluid leaks, the overfill screw and oil drain screws gasket must be replaced each time these screws are removed. NOTE: Check transmission fluid temperature with scan tool.

I don't think you can actually overfill a car with antifreeze. There is an overflow chamber that prevents this. Perhaps this overflow can be overfilled but in that case the worst thing that can happen is the little plastic cover pops off and you get some excess antifreeze on the ground.

It might also depend on the car. when car gets hot it will push coolant to reservoir (expansion) and when cold, into radiator. this is the function of the rad. cap....if u overfill reservoir it will only leak out of fill cap to the grd

1 answer

Chances are you have a bad head gasket if that is happening. Get it repaired ASAP.

Yes, remove the cap & pour it in, don't overfill.
