  1. A small package or bundle.
  2. Informal. A sizable sum of money.
  3. A boat, usually a coastal or river steamer, that plies a regular route and carries passengers, freight, and mail.
  4. A short block of data transmitted in a packet switching network.

A block of data that is transmitted over the network in a packet-switched system. The terms frame, packet and datagram are often used synonymously. See packet switching.

A unit of data sent across a network. When a large block of data is to be sent over a network, it is broken up into several packets, sent, and then reassembled at the other end.
