The transfer of pages of data between a computer's main memory and an auxiliary memory.

In computer storage technology, a page is a fixed length block of memory that is used as a unit of transfer between physical memory and external storage like a disk, and a page fault is an interrupt (or exception) to the software raised by the hardware, when a program accesses a page that is mapped in address space, but not loaded in physical memory.

paging in computer terms means that a file if created on your hard drive to act as extra RAM memory when your RAM memory is low.

In certain situations the page tables could become large enough that by paging the page

tables, one could simplify the memory allocation problem (by ensuring that everything

is allocated as fixed-size pages as opposed to variable-sized chunks) and also enable the

swapping of portions of page table that are not currently used.

The disadvantage that associate with it is that more memory accesses may be required for address translation.
