Pascal was the first Christian apologist to accept publicly that it may not be possible to prove that God exists. Instead, he proposed what has become known as Pascal's Wager. This states that it is better to live as if God does exist, because if you are wrong you have lost nothing, but if you do not worship God and you are wrong you have lost everything. There are flaws in Pascal's Wager, not the least of which is that it would logically require us to worship every god, not knowing which one might exist. However Pascal's proposition was very influential for a time.

A:By no means always, but sometimes. An example of when it does is Pascal's Wager, an argument by Blaise Pascal for believing, or for at least taking steps to believe, in God. He said that that the best course of action is to believe in God even though his existence can not be proven, because that gives the biggest potential gain and the least risk. In a nutshell, why risk eternal damnation by being a non-believer? Of course, there are many problems with Pascal's Wager, which seems to be more about reassuring believers than converting non-believers.
