The scientific name of the Lazuli Bunting is Passerina amoena. It belongs to the Passerellidae family within the Passeriformes order, which includes perching birds.

A very common species, the chipping sparrow, Spizella Passerina, is found from Canada to Nicaragua. Only the arid southwestern U.S. lacks chipping sparrows.

They are found in Maryland Delaware new jersey, small areas of south east Pennsylvania, Virginia, southern Ohio, north & south Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma Tennessee, Kansas, Arkansas, new Mexico, southern California, and southern Nevada

as well as most of Mexico.
