Patricia goes to California is about a girl who goes to the United States because of a good opportunity that comes up that her teacher talks about. At first her dad doesn't want to let her go because their family is poor. Patricia then tells him that it is free and it would get her a better job in the future because she will know some English. So when she gets to California she stays with a family. She goes to school with her two family members Diane and Lisa and Debbie Martin (a cheerleader) gets everyone to dislike Patricia because she is from Guatemala. Debbie is mean to Patricia for about 1/4 of the book. Patricia then finds Debbie in a bad situation where someone is trying to rob her. The two soon become best friends and then Debbie comes to visit Patricia at the end of the book.
