Pemberton
A newly recognized Australian wine region located in the South West Australia Zone of western australia. It's situated a little over 200 miles southeast of Perth around the towns of Manjimup and Pemberton. This region is relatively new-the first commercial vineyards didn't appear until the early 1980s. The climate of this region's southern portion around the town of Pemberton (and farther south) is quite cool. It does best with cool-climate varieties like chardonnay and pinot noir some of which finds its way into sparkling wines . In the north around Manjimup (which may one day be split into its own region), the climate is warmer with occasional hot days and cool nights. This makes it better suited to red grapes like cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, petit verdot and Shiraz (syrah). Whites that excel here include sauvignon blanc and sémillon although Chardonnay also does quite well.
