J.R.R. Tolkien attended Exeter College, Oxford University. He studied Classics and English language and literature at Oxford.

Morris also joined a Birmingham group at Pembroke College, one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in England, located in Pembroke Square.

He was the Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, with a fellowship at Pembroke College.

He served as the Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon and Fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford, from 1925 to 1945 and Merton Professor of English Language and Literature and Fellow of Merton College, Oxford from 1945 to 1959.
