William Pennington (born May 4, 1796 in Newark, New Jersey; died
February 16, 1862 in Newark, New Jersey) succeeded Philemon
Dickerson as the thirteenth Governor of New Jersey, serving between
October 27, 1837 and October 27, 1843. Following the end of
Pennington's term as Governor, Daniel Haines (born January 6, 1801
in New York, New York; died January 26, 1877) became the fourteenth
Governor of New Jersey, serving between October 27, 1843 and
January 21, 1845.
