Pentobarbital and alcohol are 2 separate drugs. pentobarbital is a barbituate drug, which is like a sedative/hypnotic drug and of course you know what alcohol is.

In terms of structure, Phenobarbital and Sodium Pentobarbitone are both Barbituates, but Phenobarbital carries a strong phenyl group attached to its cyclic ring whereas Sodium Pentobarbitone carries extra mass with the sodium group attached and less structural ability due to loose butyl and pyrimidine groups. Administered to a human, The ketone Sodium Pentobarbitone will be much less soluble compared to Phenobarbital which is actively absorbed by cutaneous tissues.

Barbiturates are no longer prescribed due to their high likelihood of abuse, damaging effects on the body, and complicated withdrawal syndromes. Much more efficient and safer drugs now exist to treat anxiety and sleep disorders.

Pentobarbital (Nembutal) has been used in neurosurgery to reduce blood flow to the brain. This reduces swelling and pressure in the brain, making brain surgery safer.
