Upon completing his studies in both music and architecture, Per Hjort Albertsen returned to his hometown and dedicated himself to its musical life, with particular emphasis on teaching. Albertesen graduated from Oslo Conservatory in 1946; his numerous teachers included Ralph Downes, Hanns Jelinek, Ludvig Nielsen, Arild Sandvold, Per Stenberg, and Svend Erik Tarp, with whom he studied in Norway, Austria, England, and Denmark. After working as an organist for 21 years (1947 - 1968) he lectured at Trondheim University (1968 - 1972), accepting the directorship of Trondheim conservatory in 1972. He has written masses, unaccompanied sacred and secular choral pieces, orchestral suites, concertos, and works for the piano. A few recordings of his compositions have been released by major labels -- his Concerto Piccolo for violin and strings by Hemera Music and a couple of his organ selections by Simax, all in the 1990s. ~ Meredith Gailey, All Music Guide
