Shalimar is the name of a palace, the Shalimar Gardens, located
in Lahore, Pakistan. The district of Lahore near these gardens is
called Shalimar Town.
The romantic associations of the palace (the word "shalimar"
means "abode of love" in Persian) have resulted in the word being
used in a number of contexts, notably in the song "Pale hands I
loved beside the Shalimar".
