Peter Sarsgaard

Peter Sarsgaard, who picked up a 2004 Golden Globe nomination for his role in Shattered Glass, made his screen debut in Dead Man Walking. A graduate of St. Louis' Washington University, where he was a co-founder of the improvisational group "Mama's Pot Roast," Sarsgaard went on to study at the Actors' Studio in New York. After he completed his studies, he was cast in the off-Broadway production of Laura Dennis. He also appeared in the off-Broadway production, Kingdom of Earth. In 1998, Sarsgaard was cast in his first substantial big-screen role, that of the ill-fated son of John Malkovich's dueling Musketeer in The Man in the Iron Mask. A few parts in some small independent movies took him to his highly acclaimed performance in 1999, in Boys Don't Cry, playing a violent, yet charismatic ex-con.

He made a number of other films including, Housebound (2000), The Center of the World (2001), K-19: The Widowmaker (2002), and Unconditional Love (2002). Sarsgaard's performance in Shattered Glass brought him awards as Best Supporting Actor from the Boston Society of Film Critics, National Society of Film Critics and the San Francisco Film Critics Circle.

Sarsgaard has gone on to roles in Garden State, Kinsey, The Dying Gaul, and In God's Hands, (all made in 2004), Jarhead (2005), Rendition and The Mysteries of Pittsburgh (2008).

Peter Sarsgaard was born on March 7, 1971, on Scott Air Force Base, IL.
