Phantasmagorical or phantasmagoric, means a surreal or unreal site or vision. The eyes the poem refer to have an aspect of ghostliness or not adding up to reality; wild colours, images that are far beyond reality.

Some facts about surrealistic music are that the surrealist movement was started by French poet Andre Breton who wrote The Surreal Manifesto in 1924. Some artists today consider themselves surrealists. Surrealism means above realism.
