Philips, Katherine (née Katherine Fowler), called ‘Orinda’ (1631-1664), author of Pompey (1663), a heroic play based on Corneille, and the first drama to be written for the Smock Alley Theatre. She came to Ireland as the wife of a wealthy English man of affairs in 1662, and founded a Society of Friendship with exclusively female members.
