Numeric key pad a consumer uses to enter a Personal Identification Number (PIN) when paying by Debit Card at a retail merchant or using an Automated Teller Machine. In a retail purchase the PIN serves as the customer's signature; in fact, it eliminates the need for a signature in electronic Point-Of-Sale transactions. A correctly entered PIN approves the sale and the transfer of funds from the customer's account to the retailer's account. An incorrect PIN invalidates the transaction.
