(1901-47), born Lodz, Poland, migrated to Australia in 1928. His book,
Short Stories of Australia (1939), written in Yiddish, paints a pessimistic picture of the weakening of traditional Jewish family and religious ties in the Australian environment. 'Drummond Street' and 'Newcomers' were published as
Two Short Stories in 1968. Among his other notable stories are 'The Pioneer', published in the
First Jewish Almanac (1937), 'The Circumcision' and 'The Last Minyan', published in
Short Stories of Australia, and 'The Funeral', published in
Coast to Coast (1944). H. Brezniak published
Pinchas Goldhar: The First Yiddish Writer in Australia: An Assessment (1968), which includes two short stories.
