Top

A time of heavier precipitation than normal. Evidence that more than one pluvial has brought wetter conditions to deserts during the last million years include plant and human remains and the presence of groundwater in aquifers. It has been suggested that these pluvials have helped to create many current desert landforms, including wadis. Pluvials and interpluvials have alternated many times. It may be that pluvials in the Pleistocene were due to lower temperatures affecting the hydrological cycle.

[Ge]

Period when the rainfall was greater than it is at present as a result of climatic changes during the Pleistocene. Mainly refers to tropical and subtropical regions outside the limits of the main ice-sheets.
