One who affects a particular attribute, attitude, or identity to impress or influence others.

The Internet is the perfect place for a poseur — someone who wants to impress others as being something he is not:

It's a sort of democratization of authority, wherein utterly unqualified and generally anonymous poseurs can dole out counsel on questions about everything from losing weight to gaining wealth."
