An invagination of skin which covers the free portion of the penis in the non-erect state. In horses the invagination is a double one. In cattle called also pizzle.

The prepuce (pronounced /ˈpriːpjuːs/) is a retractable piece of skin that covers part of the genitals of primates and other mammals.

  • On a male, it surrounds and protects the head of the penis (glans penis). See foreskin.
  • On a female, it surrounds and protects the head of the clitoris (glans clitoridis). See clitoral hood.
