Preterism is one of the 4 ways of interpreting prophetic scripture. The word preterist comes from the meaning "past".

The "preterist" sees all prophetic scripture from the bible fulfilled by 70AD - the destruction of the Jewish temple by the Roman armies commanded by Titus. This fulfillment includes the Second Coming, the rise of the Anitchirst, the 21 judgments mentioned in the book of Revelation among other things.

You would be a historicist; i.e., one who believes that the events of the end times are being unfolded from the Resurrection to the second coming. Most of the earlier postmillenialists carried this position.

You pronounce Preterists: "pree-ter-ists"

I've always heard it pronounced "preh-ter-ists" with the first syllable rhyming with "bless" without the "s" (if that makes sense.)

A preterist is a theologian who believes that all of the prophecies of the book of Revelation and there fore all of the prophecies of the Bible have already taken place. According to Jesus in Matthew 16: 27,28 he told a group of his disciples, "For the Son of man is to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay every man for what he has done. Truly, I say to you there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of man coning in his kingdom." So if Jesus has not returned and He is the Son of God who does not lie, where are the disciples of nearly 2000 years of age that should still be living according to most modern christian church doctrine of escathology? The truth is that Jesus did not lie. He did return as He said. This took place in A. D. 70 with the destruction of the Herod's temple by the Roman armies. See Luke 21:5-20.

This depends on if you believe that he can in judgment of Israel in 70 AD. I am leaning toward being a preterist so I believe the end that Jesus prophesied about in Mathew 24 and Luke 21 was about the end of the world as it was known which was the world of the old covenant and the destruction of Israel as a country not as a people that were dispersed over the earth. Please keep in mind I do not believe the words Earth and World or interchangeable.
