Mohammed Basindawa became the Prime Minister of Yemen on 2011 December 10, appointed by Vice-President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Al-Hadi. This was unusual, as the president is usually the appointer, but President Saleh had just been ousted as one of the results of the Yemeni Revolution.
