hard-copy output from a computer, such as selected information from or analyses of computer files or simply a printout of the information currently on the computer screen. Some printouts, such as statistical analyses, require special programs to tell the computer how to produce them. Others, such as a printout of the screen, are produced by the basic operating system programs. Printouts are usually produced on continuous forms that vary in paper quality and color, depending upon the application. Accounting reports are usually produced on green bar paper that makes it easy to read a line of numbers across columns.
