In sport psychology, the behavioural interactions within a group that enables the group to use its resources to achieve group objectives. A group with process faults (e.g. lack of coordination between team members, or conflicting motivations) is likely to fall short of achieving its full potential.

1. a prominence or projection, as from a bone.
2. a series of operations or events leading to achievement of a specific result; also, to subject to such a series to produce desired changes.

  • accessory vertebral p. — a process which protrudes backwards from the vertebral arch of the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae and overlap the succeeding vertebra in dogs and some other species.
  • acromial p. — acromion.
  • alveolar p. — the part of the bone in either the maxilla or mandible that surrounds and supports the teeth.
  • anconeal p. — the point of the elbow; a prolongation vertically of the ulna.
  • articular p. — one of the pair of processes at each end of a typical vertebrae which articulate with adjacent vertebral articular processes.
  • arytenoid cartilage corniculate p. — a horn-like process which extends dorsomedially and forms one side of the caudal margin of the entrance to the larynx.
  • basihyoid lingual p. — a median process which projects from the basihyoid bone into the root of the tongue in the horse and cow.
  • basilar p. — a quadrilateral plate of the occipital bone projecting superiorly and anteriorly from the foramen magnum.
  • caudate p. — the right of the two processes on the caudate lobe of the liver.
  • ciliary p's — meridionally arranged ridges or folds projecting from the crown of the ciliary body.
  • clinoid p. — any of the three (anterior, medial and posterior) processes of the sphenoid bone.
  • condylar p. — carries the articular surface with which the mandible articulates with the temporal bone at the temporomandibular joint.
  • coracoid p. — a small curved process arising from the glenoid rim and neck of the scapula; called also coracoid; large in humans and animals with large clavicles.
  • coronoid p. — 1. the anterior part of the upper end of the ramus of the mandible.
  • — 2. a projection at the proximal end of the ulna. See also coronoid process.
  • distal phalangeal extensor p. — the process on the dorsal border of the distal phalanx to which the common digital extensor tendon is attached.
  • ensiform p. — xiphoid process.
  • ethmoid p. — a bony projection above and behind the maxillary process of the inferior nasal concha of some species.
  • frontal p. — 1. of the zygomatic bone forms the anterior part of the zygomatic process.
  • — 2. a cone-shaped mass of red vascular tissue that lies across the base of the turkey's beak. Called also snood, nasal comb.
  • frontal bone cornual p. — the bony core of the horn which projects from the frontal bone.
  • frontonasal p. — an expansive facial process in the embryo that develops into the forehead and upper part of the nose.
  • malar p. — zygomatic process of the maxilla.
  • mamillary p. — a tubercle on each cranial articular process of a lumbar vertebra.
  • mandibular angular p. — a process which protrudes from the ventral caudal angle of the mandible, and acts as the attachment of the digastric muscle.
  • mastoid p. — a conical projection at the base of mastoid portion of temporal bone.
  • odontoid p. — a toothlike projection of the axis that articulates with the atlas. See also dens.
  • paracondylar p. — a prominent process lateral to the occipital condyle at the caudal extremity of the skull.
  • pterygoid p. — one of the wing-shaped processes of the sphenoid bone.
  • retroarticular p. — a flange of bone which protrudes ventrally from the caudal end of the zygomatic arch; carries part of the articular surface of the temporomandibular joint on its rostral edge.
  • spinous p. of vertebrae — a dorsal median process of a vertebra giving attachment to muscles of the back.
  • styloid p. — a long, pointed projection, particularly a long spine projecting downward from the inferior surface of the temporal bone.
  • suprahamate p. — a flat, caudally directed process on the acromion of cats and some other species.
  • tail vertebral hemal p. — paired ventral processes of the more cranial tail vertebrae; the coccygeal vessels run between them.
  • uncinate p. — any hooklike process, as of vertebrae, the lacrimal bone, or the pancreas.
  • urethral p. — an extension of the urethra beyond the end of the glans penis in the male horse, sheep and goat. In the horse it is buried in a deep recess. In the small ruminants it is a thin, loose, wormlike appendage.
  • xiphoid p. — the caudal sternebra, consisting of a rod of bone that typically supports a xiphoid cartilage. Called also xiphoid.
  • zygomatic p. — a projection from the frontal or temporal bone, or from the maxilla, by which they articulate with the zygoma.
