The standard spelling in British English, except in computer language, is programme, and in American English it is program. In the context of computing, program is used in both American English and British English, and as a verb has inflected forms programmed, programming in British English (with the variants programed, programing also available in American English). Historically, the spelling program is better established in British English, but it was replaced in the 19th century by the French form programme, which however did not establish itself in the US.

A series of instructions given to a computer to direct it to carry out certain operations. The term code is often used to denote large-scale operations.

The capability within hardware and software to change; to accept a new set of instructions that alter its behavior. Programmability generally refers to program logic (business rules), but it also refers to designing the user interface which includes the choices of menus, buttons and dialogs.
