A man named Malachi Martin made a prophecy when he received a vision concerning all the future popes from his day.

According to his prophecy, only 2 popes remain until the "end" after John Paul II. After Benedict, the current pope, Malachi Martin describes the last pope as the following:

"Peter the Roman, who will nourish the sheep in many tribulations; when they are finished, the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the dreadful judge will judge his people. The end."

Popes do not elect popes. Popes are elected by the cardinal electors.

The vast majority of popes have been Italian. As of February of 2013 there have been only 18 popes from other countries.
