Not all people who work within a public library have a library
science degree. Different positions within the library will require
different levels of education.
Pages, for example, usually only need a high school diploma.
Sometimes libraries will also have high school students working as
student pages.
Library assistants may need either a high school diploma or a
library technology degree.
Public libraries often have positions for people with other
backgrounds, such as computing science. For these positions, a
library science degree is not required.
Otherwise, most other positions require a Master of Library and
Information Sciences (MLIS) degree.
