A dismissal or rejection, especially in the form of a critical or slighting remark: “Such answers were, perhaps still are, a . . . form of put-down to the questions of white people” (Lillian Hellman).

Poker Guide: Put Down

A player who folds when it is their turn to act is deciding to "Put Down".

SoundPoker Says: When a player folds, they are literally deciding to put down their cards, hence the term "Put Down" became synonymous with folding.

For example, "I don't want to give you an uncalled bet Mike because I think you're bluffing. But I have to Put Down because I have a garbage hand."
