Ir, Íor
Third son of Míl Espáne and the eponym for whom Ireland is named, according to the pseudo-history Lebor Gabála [Book of Invasions]. As described in the narrative, Ír rows ahead of the pack of Milesian invaders during a magical storm conjured up by the defending Tuatha Dé Danann; his oar breaks and he falls back into the sea and drowns. T. F. O'Rahilly (1946) dismissed Ír as a genealogical fiction. Often confused with Íth.
