Game Description
Ragnarok Online is a persistent-world role-playing game that hosts thousands and thousands of human-controlled characters. The game is set in a fantasy realm inspired by Norse mythology, based on the popular Korean comic series by Lee Myung-jin. As in other "massively multiplayer" online games, such as Ultima Online or EverQuest, players travel the realm while battling monsters and gaining experience, sometimes cooperating with other players and sometimes competing against them. All characters begin as "Novices," and gain new skills and abilities as they earn experience, level up, and specialize in the job the player chooses. Jobs include RPG archetypes such as priest, rogue, wizard, and swordsman, with additional specialties becoming available at advanced levels. Players can find quests as they explore the game world, to earn money and experience by performing heroic deeds for non-player characters. Player-versus-player combat is available in arena battles, and also in weekly "War of Emperium" guild battles for temporary control of lucrative areas. The game world is broken into nations of distinct culture, loosely modeled after the real world in Dark Ages. Regular "Episode" updates sometimes add new regions. Mystical places inspired by Norse legend, such as Niflheim and Valhalla, also become available to player characters. Graphics feature pixel-sprites and an isometric perspective. Ragnarok Online is the flagship product of developer Gravity Co. Ltd, based in Seoul, South Korea.~ T.J. Deci, All Game Guide
