Rasheeda Buckner was born on July 29, 1982 in Brooklyn, New York. Buckner enjoyed singing and lived a fairly normal childhood until 1998 when she joined the teenage hip-hop trio, Da Kaperz. The group signed with independent label D-Lo Entertainment later that year, and the group began recording their debut album, "Da Kaperz" which was released in 1998 and is currently on itunes. D-Lo Entertainment grew tired of Da Kaperz, although they are still signed to the label as of 2009, but liked Rasheeda. So D-Lo Entertainment offered Rasheeda the chance to launch a solo career. Rasheeda had to choose to either launch a solo career and have a record deal, or to lose her record deal and stay with Da Kaperz. In the summer of 2000 Rasheeda decided to launch a solo career.
Rasheeda signed with D-Lo Entertainment in 2000 to launch a solo career, but she also signed with Motown Records as her distributing label. Rasheeda began recording her debut album in late 2000, The album, Dirty South was released in March of 2001, and was preceded by the largely successful single "Do It" featuring Pastor Troy, Quebo Gold and Re Re. The album peaked at #77 on the Billboard 200. The album's second single was "Get It On" featuring Slim. The third and final single, "Off da Chain" featuring Jazze Pha. After promotion for the album ended in late 2000, Motown Records released Rasheeda from her contract. Rasheeda then began recording her sophomore album. The album, A Ghetto Dream was released in March of 2002, and was not preceded by a single. A single was never released to promote the album. The album was also her first album to be released independently.
After Rasheeda's second album, she decided to take a break from her career. In early 2005, Rasheeda signed with Big Cat Records and later that year she began recording her third studio album. Rasheeda aimed to show the sexier side of herself as she was now 23, and not the young girl that she was when her first two albums were released. The lead single from the album, "Georgia Peach" was released in early 2006, and the album, GA Peach was released in April of 2006, four years after her second album was released. It was also her second independently released album. The album debuted at #81 on the Billboard 200. The second single from the album was, "Touch Ya Toes", The third and final single, "Got That Good (My Bubble Gum)" the hidden jewel was released as the 1st single off the "Dat Type of Gurl" album.
After Rasheeda's third studio album, GA Peach Rasheeda began recording her fourth studio album. Before doing so, Rasheeda signed with Imperial Records, so that her fourth studio album could be released with a major label and not independently like her second and third albums. Rasheeda also collaborated with Jazze Pha, Akon, Pastor Troy, Kandi Burruss, Fabo, Diamond and Princess of Crime Mob and Birdman to record her fourth studio album, which she began doing in late 2006. Rasheeda re-released the third single from her third album, "Got That Good (My Bubble Gum)" as the lead single from her fourth album. The single was a success reaching #44 on the [{Billboard top 100 singles}] and the album, Dat Type of Gurl, released in June of 2007, reached #80 on the Billboard 200 "[{My Bubble Gum}] is the album's largest selling single with over 100,000k units sold and is also the ringtone used in the #1 Box Office Hit Movie "Paul Blarts Mall Cop". The "My Bubble Gum" single is also featured in the Show Time hit series "United States o f Tara".
After Rasheeda released her fourth studio album, she chose to begin work on a side project with friend R&B singer/songwriter Kandi Burruss. The hip-hop/R&B duo, Peach Candy, began work on an album in 2007. Many fans wondered when they would release their album, and they repeatedly stated in 2008 that the album would be released soon. No album was ever released that year, but several songs were released on the internet in mid-2008. An EP, the PeachCandy EP was released in November of 2008, and in 2009, Burruss stated that their debut album is due for a 2010 release. Rasheeda also began working on her fifth studio album in early 2008. During this time Imperial Records dismantled and Rasheeda was a free agent. Rasheeda recorded her fifth album titled [{Certified Hot Chick}] The lead single, "Boss Chick" was released in May of 2009. The second single, "Juicy Like A Peach", was released in September of 2009. As of now we are anticipating the next release from this album.
