at any rate
[Middle English, from Old French, from Medieval Latin rata, proportion, short for Latin (prō) ratā (parte), (according to a) fixed (part), from feminine ablative past participle of rērī, to consider, reckon.]

[Middle English raten, perhaps of Scandinavian origin.]
Cost of advertising space or commercial time in a communications medium, as established by the management or ownership of the medium. The rate for advertising space or time as based on the circulation of a publication or the size of the listening audience, the quality of the medium's audience, and various other factors. Media will allow advertisers discounts from the basic rate structure when advertisers exceed a certain dollar volume in insertion orders or exceed a certain number of specified insertions, or when payment of advertising costs is made within a specified time period. The cost of media for advertising after discounts have been applied is called the net rate. See also rate book; rate card.
