Though, now celebrated all across India, the Rath Yatra
originated from the 'Jagannath Temple' at Puri, Orissa, India. The
Jagannatha (Lord Vishnu), one the three main Deities of the Trinity
(Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh) generally resides within the Temple
throughout the year but once every year during the month of Ashaadh
(Rainy Season - June) is brought out on a massive Chariot (Rath) so
that the public can see or meet (Darshana) the Lord. The procession
is known as Rath Yatra.
