Regional 1, a wholly owned subsidiary of Avmax, is a regional airline based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It was established and started operations in August 2003 and operated scheduled services in western Canada [1]. On September 11, 2005, the airline ceased providing scheduled operations and focused entirely on providing charter services.[citation needed]

Destinations
Prior to September 11, the airline served the following 5 cities in western Canada[citation needed]:
- Kamloops, British Columbia, Kamloops Airport
- Kelowna, British Columbia, Kelowna International Airport
- Red Deer, Alberta, Red Deer Regional Airport
- Richmond, British Columbia, Vancouver International Airport
- Victoria, British Columbia, Victoria International Airport
Current charter contracts include providing scheduled service for Canadian North, and various oil and gas companies. Historically they operated one aircraft in the Democratic Republic of Congo, flying for the World Food Programme, under the auspices of MONUC. The company also operated two Dash 8 and two DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft for Flamingo Air in Haiti, until operations were halted after the fall of former President Aristide. Police fleeing insurgents in Cap Haitien hijacked one Dash 8 on the ramp and forced the crew to fly them to Port Au Prince, and during the takeoff roll the aircraft came under fire but was not damaged.[citation needed]
Fleet
The Regional 1 fleet consists of the following aircraft (as of 30 March 2009) [1]:
- 8 Bombardier Dash 8 Q100 (seven aircraft are operated for Canadian North)
- 1 Bombardier Dash 8 Q300 (1 additional is stored at Bogota (El Dorado International Airport)
According to its website, Regional 1 is also looking at introducing the Bombardier CRJ.[2]
