relative weight

Food and Fitness: relative weight

The ratio of a person's weight to the midpoint of the weight range for people of the same height, body build, and sex, based on standard height/weight charts published by insurance companies. Relative weight is often used to assess the extent to which a person is overweight or obese, but it is not a very reliable or accurate estimate. See also body mass index; ideal weight; obesity; and overweight.
