Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) provides more than 140 bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs, primarily in the sciences. With more than 5,000 undergraduate and about 1,100 graduate students, RPI strives to provide a technology-based education through its five schools (Architecture; Engineering; Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences; Management and Technology; and the School of Science). The institute was founded in 1824 and is home to one of the oldest engineering schools in the country. RPI's main campus is in Troy, New York, but the institute also has a location in Hartford, Connecticut, that caters to working professionals.
