response coefficient
symbol : R; an overall measure of the control exercised by a specific enzyme inhibitor, at its concentration, I, on the overall flux, F, of a multienzyme system. Hence,
R F I = (∂F/F)/(∂I/I)
or R = fractional change in flux/fractional change in inhibitor. A response coefficient can also be determined for the effect of I on the concentration of a metabolite S. Thus
RS I = (∂S/S)/(∂I/I)
It is the product of the elasticity coefficient and the flux control coefficient.
