Accounting service providing some assurance to the Board of Directors and interested parties as to the reliability of financial data without the CPA conducting an examination in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards. The AICPA Auditing Standards Board formulates review standards for public companies while the AICPA Accounting and Review Services Committee provides review standards for nonpublic businesses. A limited review consists primarily of inquiry and Analytical Review. It is not an audit nor does it furnish a basis for an opinion since there is no appraisal of internal control nor gathering of audit evidence. The review program includes reading minutes of meetings, reading interim financial information to see whether it conforms to Gaap, and obtaining management's written representations as to its responsibility for the information provided. The accountant's report should include: (1) a statement that the review is conducted in accord with appropriate standards for reviews; (2) identification of the interim data reviewed; (3) description of the procedures followed; (4) a statement that a review is much less in scope than an audit in conformity with Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) (5) a statement as to whether material modifications exist to make the information conform with Gaap; and (6) a statement that financial statement information is the representation of management. In a review of financial statements of nonpublic businesses, the objective is to give limited assurance that no significant modifications to the financial statements are needed to make them conform with GAAP. Procedures of a corroborative nature are not necessary. Work should be documented in the working papers indicating the disposition of unusual items. A report should not be issued if the accountant is unable to conduct an appropriate review. If the CPA finds a departure from GAAP in performing the review, the financial statements should be modified. If they are not modified, the CPA should state in the review report the departure and its financial statement effect. See also Compilation.

A review is an evaluation of a publication, such as a movie, video game, musical composition, book, or a piece of hardware like a car, home appliance, or computer. In addition to a critical statement, the review's author may assign the work a rating to indicate its relative merit. More loosely, an author may review current events or items in the news.

A compilation of reviews may itself be called a review. The New York Review of Books, for instance, is a collection of essays on literature, culture, and current affairs. National Review, founded by William F. Buckley, Jr., is an influential conservative magazine, and Monthly Review is a long-running socialist periodical.

In scientific literature the literature review is a category of scientific paper, which provides a synthesis of research on a topic at that moment in time. A compilation of these reviews forms the core content of a 'tertiary' scientific journal, with examples including Annual Reviews, the Nature Reviews series of journals and Trends.

A peer review is the process by which scientists assess the work of their colleagues that has been submitted for publication in the scientific literature. A software review is also a form of peer review, by the co-workers.

A consumer review refers to a review written by the owner of a product or the user of a service who has sufficient experience to comment on reliability and whether or not the product or service delivers on its promises.

An expert review usually refers to a review written by someone who has tested several peer products or services to identify which offers the best value for money or the best set of features.

A bought review is the system where the creator (usually a company) of a new product pays a reviewer to review his new product. Primarily used in the car, movie and game industry this system creates a kind of undercover advertising. Bought reviews obviously are often biased, although exceptions occur.
