Pertaining to or caused by rickettsiae.

  • r. fish disease — caused by rickettsia-like organisms; most often asymptomatic in teleosts; characterized by granular, blue inclusions in epithelial cells of the gills. Similar bodies are found in the digestive glands of molluscs and crustaceans. More generalized infections sometimes cause ill-defined syndromes in crustaceans. Called sometimes epitheliocystis. See also piscirickettsiosis.
